What Is Invisalign Treatment Like from Start to Finish?

Your First Conversation with Us
Everything starts with a consultation. When you visit us at Archibald Dental Centre, Dr. Carly Hamilton takes the time to sit down with you, look at your teeth, and listen to what you’re hoping to achieve. There’s no pressure and no rush. Our office is designed to feel warm and cozy, because we know dental appointments can feel intimidating, and we want you to feel genuinely at ease from the moment you walk in.
During this visit, we’ll talk about your smile goals, take a look at your bite, and let you know whether Invisalign is a good fit for you.
Getting Your Custom Treatment Plan
If Invisalign is the right path forward, we’ll take digital scans of your teeth. No goopy impressions needed! These scans are used to create a 3D model of your mouth, which allows us to map out exactly how your teeth will shift over the course of treatment.
You’ll even get to preview what your smile could look like at the end, which our patients love.
Receiving Your Aligners
A few weeks later, your first set of custom-made aligners will be ready. These are clear, smooth plastic trays that fit snugly over your teeth. You’ll wear each set for about one to two weeks before moving on to the next one in the series.
Here’s what to keep in mind once you get started:
- Wear time matters. Aligners work best when worn 20 to 22 hours a day. You take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush your teeth.
- They’re removable. No food restrictions, and cleaning your teeth stays simple. This is one of the biggest advantages.
- Some adjustment is normal. Your teeth may feel a little pressure when you switch to a new tray. This is a sign the aligners are doing their job, and it usually fades within a day or two.
Check-Ins Along the Way
Throughout your treatment, you’ll come in for periodic check-ups to make sure everything is moving along as planned. Invisalign treatment generally takes anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending on the complexity of the case, though many patients see results sooner.
Life After Aligners
Once you’ve worked through your full series of trays, treatment doesn’t quite end there. You’ll move into the retention phase, which usually means wearing a retainer at night to keep your teeth in their new position. This part is easy to maintain and helps protect all the progress you’ve made.
